The department of Medical Informatics home The department of Medical informatics (in Dutch: Klinische Informatiekunde, abbreviation KIK) was founded in 1995. Initially members of the department were mainly involved in the educational programme in Medical Informatics, a four year course that led to a diploma in Medical Informatics at the graduate level. Apart from our department also other pre-clinical and clinical departments are involved in this programme. Since 2003 this programme was replaced by a three year Bachelor and a 2 year Master programme.

The department has the following mission:

The department carries out research in medical informatics and participates extensively in educational activities related to the Bachelor and Master programs of Medical Informatics of the AMC-UvA. Moreover, it manages by means of a Clinical Registry office three large ISO 9001:2000 certified (inter)national clinical registries on: renal replacement therapy (ERA-EDTA), Intensive Care (NICE) and cardiological and cardiosurgical interventions (BHN), and uses their data for research purposes.
The research of the department is mainly externally funded and is classified into a methodological and an application type. The activities of the department in both research and education have gained national and international recognition.
