Currently, in 2009, the department consists of one full professor and head of the department, two associate professors, one with a strong focus on research and also the adjunct head, and one with a strong focus on education, nine assistant professors, 1 postdoc, 14 PhD students and 8 support staff (secretaries, software engineers and data managers).Members of the staff are actively engaged in research and education. Moreover, the department manages by means of a Clinical Registry office three large ISO 9001:2000 certified (inter)national clinical registries on: renal replacement therapy (ERA-EDTA), Intensive Care (NICE) and cardiological and cardiosurgical interventions (BHN), and uses their data for research purposes. Some staff members are responsible for these registries, whereas other members carry out tasks to keep the registries up-to-date and of high quality.
